Skeleblog

Experimental Skeleton is an underground art group that strives for research and break through in the visual arts. Before going to this presentation I never noticed the underground art world stirring in Tampa's streets. Inspired by Bryon Gyson and William Burrough's "Dreamachine", Experimental Skeleton created a dreamachine that was much larger. They also created "the wishing well", an installation that was put in the middle of the exhibition where onlookers were to throw in money and record there wish.

Marcel Duchamp

Marcel Duchamp was a pioneer in the art world for years, starting ideas such as decontextualization and interactive art pieces. His piece entitled "fountain" where he just submitted a urinal to an exhibit raised many questions and redefined art as we know it. Now art is whatever an artist considers to be art. In the photo above is an example of his new style of art. "Rotary Glass Plates (above) is one of the first interactive art pieces that spins to create a visually appealing windmill effect.

Joseph Beuys

Joseph Beuys was a performance artist from Germany. Recognized as one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, his works have influenced many of the great artists that preceded him. His pieced rose awareness of social and humanity issues that few dared to express. An example that we saw in class was his performance art piece titled "How to Explain a Picture to a Dead Hare" where he wore a gold mask while he paced around a room trying to explain the works on the wall to the dead hare.

Orlan

Orlan is a female french artist who is known for eccentric ways and unusual methods. She was one of the pioneers of performance art using herself, the artist, as a medium to display her art. Her earlier pieces were very involved in sexuality and the phenomenon's of human nature. Later she started experimenting with plastic surgery, she literally made herself the artwork that. Adding horns to her head, she has transformed herself to become literally a freak of nature.

Replacing the band

After sitting in class and discussing how electronic music has transformed music from more band oriented to being able to do it single handedly I took more notice to how this was actually happening. Here is a video of an artist from Australia that has replaced everything but himself. He provides the instruments, lyrics and even replaces the stage crew and venue.
